Nights Like These
It’s nights like these
When missing you makes my heart concave,
And the atmosphere of the rain
Makes my scars sting like when they were new.
It’s nights like these
When I stay up too late,
Straining my eyes to write too many love poems
Between fuming flashes of lightning.
It’s nights like these
That I suddenly become mesmerized by the ceiling fan afterwards,
And how it continues to go around
No matter how dark the room is.
It’s nights like these
When the rain no longer falls from just the clouds,
And my mind starts to become dormant
From all of the things that keep me awake.
It’s nights like this one
That shows me what it’s like to be human,
And how to be a part of something bigger than myself.
But instead of pondering the tiresome aspects of life,
I think I’ll just go to sleep for a while.
