The Owl and the Dog

the dog, playful and happy,
took time out of its days,
to watch the owl; wise and quiet,
occasionally hooting
at the funny attempts
of the young dog
trying to get the attention
of the owl
the cat and the mouse
saw this unlikely friendship
and thought,
wouldn’t it be nice
if we could one day
be like this?
