I Know a Field
I know a field
From a long time ago
Just over the horizon
Down by the paths I no longer walk
I know a field
where there are more dandelions than a child could ever imagine,
where the soft grass still feels warm beneath your bare feet,
and where the bees do not sting.
I know a field
Sheltered by majestic, towering oaks,
Their branches reaching out, providing shadow from the glaring sun,
Their branches reaching out, allowing bright rays of sunshine to envelop me.
I remember
the careless laughs of utter happiness ringing through the field,
the countless hours of time not wasted,
and not knowing or caring what lay beyond the field.
I knew a field
From a long time ago
I left its protection, never turning back,
But it calls for me to return.
