Track
The red, recycled tires,
The white tape in every lane,
White lines.
Shots being fired,
Runners with extremely fast reflexes.
People running,
Lap after lap after lap around a turf field.
Nerves begin to kick in the closer it gets to the start of the race.
Winning the race,
An accomplishment in itself.
Setting a personal record,
It’s the equivalent to starring the main role in a hit movie.
Being good enough to move to CIF finals,
A nomination for an Oscar.
Being #1 in the state,
Like winning that Oscar.
Track is one of my favorite sports,
Even though I enjoy team sports more than any other sport,
Track is different.
For one, the relay is a team event, which I like a lot.
Then there are the hurdles which are really fun,
And the 100 meter dash is the easiest but the least controllable event.
All you do is sprint to the finish line and hope that you race against people who are faster than you,
You can either do something miraculous to improve the next time you race,
Or accept the fact that the other people are faster than you.
However, track is still one of my favorite sports,
Even though it’s mainly people running around in circles.
