Where I'm From
I am from the boondocks, from John Deere and muscle cars.
I am from the old green and white house hidden behind the bushes with the smell of pine.
I am from the pine forest, the golden sunset over the treetops.
I am from seclusion and dry senses of humor, from Joe and Lynn Priewe and Danny Larkin.
I am from the relaxed and the musical.
From “don’t go in the woods at night” and “you are such a happy child.”
I am from acceptance of religion. Baptized yet unknowing of true faith.
I’m from New Berlin and the lands of America before its settlement, lucky charms and pink milk.
From the days playing in the yard every summer with Danny, the corn fields and car shows.
I am from the photo collage on the wall and the albums in the book case,
reminding me of the carefree days.
