My parents have never told me
“You can do whatever you set your mind to”
I’ve never heard the words
“We will support you in whatever you choose” leave their lips
I have never listened to them say
“follow your dreams”
Or
“follow your heart”
Not once
Not ever
Other kids hear this from their parents
I am not any other kid
I am me
I have my own parents
And instead I hear the words
“Unrealistic”
“Silly”
And
“Not Possible”
