It’s a circle
Shiny silver words spell out the
Dreaded
Second place.
It hangs on the wall
Swaying with the breeze from my window,
Mocking the one time I tried my hardest, just coming up
Short of success.
Second best
Every time.
Years later, I stare at that
Faded metal tarnish.
Strangely,
I don’t see failure.
I see memories that fill me to the brim
I see teamwork, effort, and my childhood
Who cares about second place?
