Fire and Water
You are like a flame,
Burning all my hopes with your path.
I trusted you to be steadfast as a tree,
Always there for me to hold onto.
But, like the charcoal
Left behind in the forest once you’ve been there,
You despise the wave to wipe your resting place clean.
Storms break against the rock cliff,
Determined, like a hungry shark in the ocean,
To break you from the rock
Where you are fastened.
When, like a candle in the sun,
You are blind,
The coal black of darkness overcomes you.
In the smoke of the pain you feel,
The waves are determined to splash you out.
When I look in the stone of my past,
I see Water like Fire
And Fire like Water.
But everything changes,
Fire and Water are never the same.
Fire like Fire.
Water like Water.
