Voices of Reason
Sometimes at night in my bed I lie
The most daunting of thoughts consume my mind
And suddenly I start to cry
High tides of emotions surge down my face
Anger and anguish with no hope of ceasing
Then all at once I hear them say
With cherubic whispers and musical tones so pleasing
“Mommy, don’t cry! Mommy be brave
Just a few more struggles till you will be saved!”
Though they lie in the future far, far away
I know I will owe it to them someday
So I wipe my cheeks and blow my nose
Knowing what the future holds
One day I’ll repay them for what they do
Although I haven’t got a clue
Of when we will meet or who they will be
But they are still a part of me
And the day they arrive with their own cries of fear
I’ll just smile and softly say, “Mommy is here”
