Christmas Reflection
My reflection,
brown, shoulder-length hair,
red dress,
high heels,
make-up covering my face.
I haven’t been this nervous,
in a very long time.
I had loved him for two years,
but tonight,
the night of December twenty fifth,
I’d meet the ones who loved him first,
his parents.
I didn’t know if they would like me,
the petite girl staring at me in the mirror,
but i had to meet them.
He had given me the best Christmas present ever.
I rubbed my stomach,
but not because i was nervous.
Hopefully this dress isn’t too tight.
This was the best time for this awkward meeting,
considering i would be in their lives forever,
both of us would.
I stared at my left hand,
the sparkling reminder on the third finger,
brought back memories,
of what could have been,
what should have been.
I closed my eyes as they filled with water.
“If daddy was here, this would be easier.”
I said touching my stomach again.
That gunman took so much from me.
And now i have to do this all alone,
I took a deep breath.
I knew I’d meet my parents,
but i never imagined it being this way.
I couldn’t change it.
At least one little part of him,
was still with me.
That thought made me smile,
and i knew i was ready to go.
“Come on little buddy,
Let’s go meet grandma and grandpa.”
