The Giant
He is marching strong over the earth, arms swinging from the shoulders
He leaps canyons and gorges, and tramples mountains under his heels
He wades in the ocean, and stoops to drink of it with cupped hands
Catching a whale with the water, picking it out, examining it,
Tossing it back and watching it dart away from his feet like a minnow.
He steps out of the ocean and shakes the water away from his ankles
Squelching out the flames of a thousand fires,
And never noticing. He walks, revolving the earth with his strides
Casting shadows on the stars and cooling the sun with his breath.
Jupiter rolls toward his head and he catches it, holds it
Memorizes its layers and pushes it back into orbit
Watches it speed away to the other side of the galaxy
And walks on, to the outermost ends of the universe.
