Stomach Full of Butterflies
What do you do when all the butterflies have disappeared?
The feeling that washes over you when everything is fine, but nothing feels right.
She hid in a corner where not even the light could find her.
You could see it in her eyes as they flew away,
A trail of color, that left her empty inside.
How can you be nervous when there's left to lose?
That night she sat on the steps and cried her feelings away.
One sentence feels like it can change you world,
Especially when you're young and don't know better.
The days trailed by, leaving only a gray, faded memory in their wake.
That night swirled around her, until only life could tell her what was real.
So she walked, sat, sang, and wrote.
Not daring to believe her daydream.
While the stars shone brightly that night,
She looked at her life and wondered,
What chocolate tasted like,
When it wasn't so bittersweet.
She breathed.
Until the frigid air consumed her.
And then nothing more.
Now she sits in time waiting,
To hear a new sentence,
That could bring the butterflies back.
