The Saddest Thing I've Heard Today.
I found her in the middle
of the flight of steps
surrounded by heavy bags
full and laden with groceries.
She asked for help,
said she couldn’t
make it all the way up.
I asked why she tried
to carry so much at once.
She said:
“Sometimes I forget I’m old.
I like to think I’m still young.”
