"Never let the future disturb you. You will meet it, if you have to, with the same weapons of reason which today arm you against the present." --Marcus Aurelius

silently thousands of times I’m seeking
absolution
my guilt clogs gutters and
crowds my dreams with faces
I’ll never forget.
Kings of long-gone countries I’ve ravaged,
swallowed whole in attempts to preserve something beautiful,
jeer at me from their bone-thrones
in well-tailored suits and camel coats
waiting patiently to deliver speeches that render me
both helpless and unhelpful.
Freckled bodies loom
naked and fresh and unreachable,
arm stretched and fingers barely touching mine-
then wordlessly fade
from the green parks and long talks of summer.
A yellow dog stands in the snow
looking at me with perfect hazel eyes
asking questions I don’t know the answer to.
Austria waits,
my sisters wait,
crowds of people I’ve left behind wait
for my atonement-
yes, that one,
the one I can’t find.
Sometimes I wake up
in the middle of the night
and feel fingers in my hair,
open palms from out of nowhere.
cleaning me,
but I found soon that I was still asleep.

silently thousands of times I’m seeking
absolution.

Every time I read one of your poems, I'm just amazed and wonder and debate if you are a teenager. Sometimes, I wanna be like I quit this b*tch—writing, that is. The concept of this poem is relatable. I think we all try to search to that one thing that will just take away all of our regrets. But I wonder if we ever will. Your descriptions, as always, are so full of life, that I just envision it all in my head. Plus, the title is original. Not boring like some of the title for most of the poems here. <.< If you ever teach, a class on how to write poetry, I'm so signing up—even though I think I'm older than you.  I must learn to write with such abiilty and clarity. Honestly, I think you one of the best on this site, if not the best. Always, keep on writing. Don't quit. Even if you feel like it. You have too much talent to quit.
