what do I know
when everything falls aside and I am standing naked in a cranberry January glow,
what do I know
as a smile and a trigger and the soft frightened noises start to snow
what do I know
someday my little starlight I think that you will find
that you are sad for me
and you will send for me
but I will never be
there for you
someday my dignity will overcome me and I’ll find
that I must find today
and I will ride today
and they will never say
it was all for you
…it was all for you.
but what do I know,
with pearls for teeth and eyeballs, with diamonds in my hair,
what do I know
in crowded rooms and cluttered wombs and hand-enchanted air
what do I know
someday my little starlight I think you’ll understand
but if you’re gone from me
it won’t be long for me
and I will never be
long to you
…it was all for you.
