Fuego
He runs down the street dodging people and cars,
To a building with smoke reaching up to the stars,
People watch as he glides by,
Running to the smoke risen so high,
His heart is racing to keep up with him,
By the sound of the sirens, things are grim,
Without even thinking he charges the door,
Heat fills his body; the smoke grows more,
Coughing through darkness he moves up the stairs,
Smoke fills his lungs as he takes on the dares,
He breaks through a door and is pounded by smoke,
Too much movement can cause the fire to provoke,
He looks around for the girl he came for,
Through the fuego, she lay on the floor,
Stepping through the room, he grows weak,
But nothing can stop him from finding the girl he seeks,
His mind is wasting; his heart is burning,
The fire around him, every second, is churning,
He prays to God for mercy on his soul,
He can hear the chime of Death’s Toll,
A boost of energy pushes him to her,
The sight in front becomes a blur,
He picks her up; over his shoulder,
Wishing the temperature was much colder,
Down the stairs, through the smoke, and out the door,
She dies in his arms; he suffers some more,
With smoke in his lungs and a broken heart,
He realizes soon they won’t be apart,
He falls to a knee, feels like he’s been smoking,
He hits the ground; he won’t be woken…
