In Praise of Chicken

The tender breast of a
Young chicken is tasty
To most people.
Slicing and tearing the bird’s
Flesh and cutting into the
Delicate muscle is appealing
To the average human.
But is all of the pain and
Suffering really worth it?
What if people knew that
Most chicken they eat
Has never seen the light of day?
Or if they knew that the bird
They are consuming was forced
To lay in feces because they
Were genetically selected to not
Be strong enough to walk.
What if people could see
The chicken cry out?
Would they still be so heartless?
