Sanity
To be sane
Is to be bound
By chains
And ropes around your neck
Most acquire it
Others are born with it
Most wish for it
Others flee it
I dare say
I am among
Those who run
For I value
My own priorities
to remain
A single chess piece
On an empty checkerboard
A mountain in the sea
The fog of dawn in the evening
That is what defines me
To catch and bottle me
To kill a spirit so utterly free
That is sanity
I know not what becomes
Of those who search for sanity
And find it lying open
On a night with no moon
beneath it, unnoticed,
The buried truth
Though I do know
If I were looking for sanity
I would be sane too
