Something Borrowed
Dear God,
I ask you for just one thing it's kind of hard to say
I've wanted it forever but I've waited till today
You made it with your own hands before the break of day
You the masterful potter, it the flexible clay
You watched it's first steps upon your precious Earth
You knew what it would become before it's very birth
You held it steady upon it's thin rope of life
You guarded it with care, free from every strife
It turned from you but you never left it's side
It ignored your gifts but you remained the tender guide
It cried when it had fallen beyond earthly repair
Yet you were ready and waiting for it's long awaited prayer
You guided it back to your ever luminous light
Now always beside you, never in flight
You walked it down my rope just one time
It made me want to call it mine
But that's just it, though call me cursed
It was yours from the very first
So I'm here to ask for no small feat
If you're confused let me repeat:
I ask you for just one thing it's kind of hard to say
I've wanted her forever but I've waited till today
You made her with your own hands before the break of day
You the masterful potter, her the flexible clay
You watched her first steps upon your precious Earth
You knew what she would become before her very birth
You held her steady upon her thin rope of life
You guarded her with care, free from every strife
She turned from you but you never left her side
She ignored your gifts but you remained the tender guide
She cried when she had fallen beyond earthly repair
Yet you were ready and waiting for her long awaited prayer
You guided her back to your ever luminous light
Now always beside you, never in flight
You walked her down my rope just one time
You made me want to call her mine
But that's just it, though call me cursed
She was yours from the very first
So I ask you God to let me borrow
Not forever just till tomorrow
And when you decide tomorrow will end
Know that I will return her to you as an ever grateful friend
I promise that forever we will make you number one
I promise to protect her as you have always done
So I'll ask you every day
Until you call me to your heavenly way
I ask you sir, as you are her father
May I have the hand of your beloved daughter?
