The Poem
Today you assigned us to write a poem,
my paper and I thought it would be easy,
But really,
It was harder than a stale piece of bread.
You said it had to have a simile,
You know something that compares two objects using like or as,
Well this is as tough as a brand new softball glove
You reminded us that it had to use personification,
you remember, you animate an inanimate object,
We’ll my paper is scolding me now for not being able to write a poem.
You told us that it had to have a metaphor,
you taught us that it is just like a simile but without the like or as,
But I think this is flowing slower than molasses would.
You said it had to be a narrative,
Just like a story but shorter and in stanzas,
But I couldn’t do it.
Looking back now I can tell,
WAIT!
STOP!
LOOK!
I wrote one!
Now I think I’ll read it to you.
