21st Century Masquerade
When the eyes are shielded,
Emotions can no longer be seen.
They act as a mask,
Hiding one’s soul from the world.
Anyone who slides them onto their face,
Steps right into line,
Marching through their life
Like toy soldiers.
When undistinguishable,
Identities can be changed.
People can act as another,
As if their lives are carefree.
As if nothing can faze them.
Yet, when they fall off,
Everyone sees who they really are.
Who would want to be unmasked
When one can hide from reality forever.
Sunglasses: turning the world into a giant masquerade,
Once face at a time.
