Two Little Girls
Two little girls, afternoon princesses
Until the sky turns orange and red
And the air turns cold and smoky
When the princesses shed their gowns
Not to be carriage ponies
But wild stallions, young and curious
About the thick, settled grandfather trees
And the black birds that sing from them
Maybe they could fly too
If they stopped being horses
And started being birds
