Present Darkness
I never wanted to hurt you.
But it could not happen any other way.
I have heard it said:
"A happy heart makes a face cheerful,
But a heartache crushes the spirit."
I can see it on your face.
Lack of expression betrays your crushed spirit.
It hurts me too.
Don't think I don't notice the absent smile.
It disappeared that day, lost among painful memories.
Time should bring it back.
One day it will return and brighten the world again.
But I am at fault for the present darkness.
I know I have no power to retrieve it.
It is not my place anymore.
I wait for it along with everyone else.
Time passes too slowly.
