Martha Billie and Sweetheart (The Things They Carried inspired)
Fiction
Fact
It was my imagination
I swear, it happened
Was it a dream,
Was it fate,
Was it you
I swear, I saw your face
She was there,
She wasn’t
I felt her there,
Her hand, her hair,
And then it snapped,
The ground below me fell and the roof caved in
The ground shook and opened
He fell,
Hit and down
Gone to the world
Perhaps to the skies
Perhaps to the trees
I watched you burn,
I saw you burn,
I saw your lucky charm sit upon you as you burned
How could I see you again
When you burned
Revived yourself, a new you to give to me in hand
But, still not you
