For Me
I dream of a face I’ve never seen
A place I’ve never been
A boy I’ve never known
A life where I’m not alone
I dream of my hand that’s never been held
Entangled in his, where love isn’t misspelled
We walk and talk and listen and laugh
We joke and we smile and do nothing on behalf
Of anything besides ourselves
Our joy and our hope, the giggles we tell
I dream of his voice I’ve never heard
Of knowledge I’ve never learned
I dream of clothes I’ve never worn
Of shredded memories I haven’t torn
I dream of a love I’ve never felt
A daring deal I’ve never dealt
I dream of a smile just for me
I dream of the sights I’ve never seen
I dream of tears I’ve never cried
The ones of happiness refusing to hide
I dream of a life I’ve never lived
Then I wake up and realize I’m the kid
Who shouldn’t whine about what isn’t
And rejoice over what is
For I have the ability to dream
I now dream of my life that I’ve deemed
The life just for me
