Fallen Angel
I spread my wings
And reach for the sky,
But my feet never leave the ground.
I fall to me knees
Sobbing “Why?!” to the gods above.
Only then do I realize that I’m all alone
No one is there to hear me
I’m by myself, like always.
I stay on the ground, crying, if only for just a moment longer,
Why have the gods done this to me?
They abandon me on this planet,
And worse,
They take away the one thing I love beyond anything else,
My wings.
I pound my skull against the concrete,
“Why, why, why?” I ask
I lift my head above the cracked slab and reach a hand up to my forehead,
I feel a thin trickle of blood slip between my fingers.
I clasp my hands together and let one last tear roll down my cheeks.
I crawl to a standing position and look up,
The sun is bright on my cheeks,
It emits a beautiful glow as the light refracts against my tears.
I sigh and begin the long walk home,
Looks like I won’t be flying home today.
Maybe tomorrow,
I can only hope.
