At Peace
I am at peace in my car,
The smell of old upholstery surrounding me,
Mixed with a touch of cinnamon,
The old seat hugging my body,
Butter soft leather under my fingers,
My dream catcher guarding my dash,
I find peace in my car.
I am at peace in the rain,
The smell of damp earth filling my lungs,
Musky with the tang of water,
The humidity embraces me, grounding me,
A cool drop transverses my neck,
Green is everywhere, calming my eyes,
I find peace in the rain
A honk,
A light,
A voice,
A pain in my shoulder,
Take my momentary peace from me,
But I will find it again,
In the next ride,
In the next storm.
