Glass
(Plaster on a grin,
Hide the pain under your skin.)
But when I look at you I see
In painful, shocking clarity
the hurt behind your eyes
and the tears you won't cry
and bittersweet glass smiles
Dark eyes stare at tiles
You say the words don't hurt
But they're driving you into the dirt
I want to protect you
But, really, I'm scared too
I have to savor the moments in the light,
When I get to see your eyes ignite
You're falling down, down, down,
Fire burning up the town
And I hope someday you'll let me
Try to help you see
The light that's peaking out
Even though we run and scream and shout
You're spiraling off the face of the earth
And I can't show you what you're worth
You're drowning in the blackness
I try to save you from the sadness
You're silk stretched over glass,
You'll shatter and you'll crash and
Everything makes a new scar
And you're straying so very far
Please don't go away
I just need you to stay
You're broken and beautiful and still standing
But you'll fall to a crash landing
If you don't hold on strong
And then you'll still be wrong
Because I worry, worry
That the world is going blurry
And I'll do what I can,
But the fight today began
And you're close to going under
And sometimes I really wonder
If you ever really fell
Or if you've always been in hell
I wish you'd tell me why
You'd never let yourself fly,
I'm always scared in the morning
Because yesterday your eyes were warning
That I might not see you come the dawn
I'm terrified you'll be gone
Because you pretend that you're okay,
But you cry at the end of the day.

Hide the pain under your skin.)
