Time-
From the beginning of birth,
He walks with us in an unyielding rhythmic manner,
Never stopping-
Never hurrying.
The cries and begs of ‘speed up!’ or ‘slow down!’
Has no effect on the ever so constant being.
He marches on through the joys and laughter of life
As well as the storms and burdens the journey brings.
The tick-tock of his steady footsteps
Often go unnoticed in the hustle and bustle of the world around him,
Yet he accompanies each and every person to walk the Earth
From their first intake of breath to the very last.
As steady as a heartbeat,
He is the metronome to the music that is life,
Providing the unwavering pulse
To which everyone plays their symphonies.
Farther down the road
As youth flees from our grasp,
He seems to be running,
Moving too swiftly for comfort-
Yet it is all an illusion,
For life is the track and he is the runner,
His pace unchanging,
Remaining fair and just to those he accompanies.
Eventually all leave him for the great unknown,
Yet he never feels the sting of loneliness.
For his journey is unending,
His rhythm unchanging
Ever suspended in the infinite.
