overflow
I painted my nails tonight
cherry red, the color of my
lipstick
the color of my
better moments
(also of my flaws)
how they looked in the white light slick shiny messy
slopped on hot hue burning
up my cuticles
drops scattered on my thumb, the
crease of my finger
mistakes but more complete- an overflow
drunk and unforgiving
how they looked perched
as I folded my hands (fingers
touching like lovers
white naked ready)
perched like tiny devils
spreading their little red bodies where they shouldn’t
ready to take flight
one of these days
I’ll let them
