The Window in the Living Rooms of our Lives
A vessel made of glass;
A portrait of the world in plain view;
A marking of a century.
The barrier that separates the wind,
The bone chilling essence that stains the very moment
From finding its way into the room.
The facade that absorbs the falling blows from the rain,
Now making the pitter patter,
The cadence that my heart beat follows.
So smooth, so concrete.
It’s there and yet we never take account
Of how many times we’ve relied on it
To shelter us from the rays of sun,
Beating Spring into our living rooms.
The foyer has never seen such a day,
And without this reminder,
Our memories couldn’t mark the page
Of
A
New
Day.
