Ignorant People
Everyone thinks it's a joke,
when it's not,
it's real,
it's happening,
and it's your fault.
Shove your fingers so far
into your ears
you bump your brain,
your eyes cross and shake
and rattle.
You never listen.
You ignorant little thing,
sitting in corners blocking out the world
like we're out here to do you harm.
Bully.
That's your name that echoes
from child lips while they cry,
and wipe away the swear words
you've engraved on their skin.
They're sorry,
I hope you know,
they're sorry their skin is
charcoal-covered chocolate.
I'm sorry that
you
are wrong,
and the devil carved his sins
on your eyes,
your heart,
your soul.
You ignorant little thing,
sitting in corners blocking out the world,
when you're the one doing harm.
This isn't a joke.
This isn't made-up.
This isn't going away,
until you and everone else
realizes
it's time to
wake up,
wake up
and stop comparing shades of skin
with the quality of hearts.
This isn't a joke,
it never was.
