Step By Step
You scale the ladder
Rung by Rung
Step by step
Year by year
Day by day
Minute by minute
Second by second
And then you stop
When the shock
Shows its face
I bet you wouldn’t think much
Of a rung gone missing
Neither did I
So you see, I brushed it off
Like it was nothing
Like it was dust
Every now and then, another is gone
And another
And another
Suddenly, almost as if they weren’t there before
You see the waves
Crashing down under you
Beckoning you with their misery
Their lust
Their lonliness
Their self-untrust
Without warning, all the rungs
Are ripped from within your grasp
You cling to the only thing left
Your last hope: The rails
Year by year
Day by day
Minute by minute
Second by second
Those rails become harder to hold onto
Endlessly chipping at your strength
While your tears slide off your cheeks and
Drip into that everpresent dark sea
That whispers to you
Of miracles in the night
You made the decision to risk
Letting go
To let your last hope fade
To let yourself plunge into those treacherous waves
At last, you loosen your grip
Smiling as you
Cut through the wind
Falling
Into an ocean
Of new begining
