Something to Gain
Love will die and friends betray.
I search for something that will stay.
Fill me with wisdom, erase my doubt.
Show me what this life is truly about.
Confusion and fear always clock out the truth.
I am told I’m too small; they look down on my youth.
I need guidance to judge what is right and what’s fair,
So please strengthen me, Lord, as I finish this prayer.
And though I do not ask you to remove the pain,
I request the assurance there’s something to gain.
And this something is one that will forever last,
Not just something that lingers a day then is past.
Through this trial I pray I’ll come closer to You,
For I’ve learned I don’t need to know just what to do.
Everything You have planned will be best for Your child,
Even all of those sins You witnessed and reviled.
But I learn from mistakes and You push them aside
So that one day in heaven with You I’ll reside.
So I thank You, my Father, there’s nothing I’ve done,
But the cost has already been paid by Your Son.
The meaning of life is simply this:
To love and obey You is true bliss.
