Perfection
Humanity constantly strives for perfection
This unreachable goal dances just beyond our grasp
Causing aching pain and crippling anguish
When we look within the reflection of a mirror
We shrink away from what we see
We notice only superficial blemishes
Not the beauty that lies beneath our skin
Our wild goose chase is doing inexplicable harm
Inflicting eating disorders and self destruction on teens
Causing low moral in the whole of society
We go as far as liposuction
To achieve something unreachable
To become something we’re not
And if we did manage to achieve perfection
What if unwanted visitors arrived alongside it?
The ugly face of jealousy may be
Intoxicating those around it with envy
Alienating anyone who got too close
Is perfection really what we should work to attain?
Maybe we should set a new objective
