A Metaphor for Me
My windowsill is broken and caved in.
It looks like a bowl the way it collects rainwater,
especially when it happens overnight
On the outside looking in, you can see the saturated wood slowly letting go of the fulfilling water that
maybe it was meant to hold.
Drop by drop the water frees itself to fall to the hard,
callous cement below where it waits to be
evaporated by the unbridled sun,
leaving the broken sill that so desperately searches for completion.
No longer able to serve as a sill but maybe as a place for a pigeon to get a drink
or for a blue jay to take a little blue bath.
From this broken creature
the
water
frees
itself.
