Butterflies
Every time I hear your name
The butterflies instantly take flight
Ascending to new heights
I know now not fight them
Sometimes I willingly invite them
And they take over
Soaring up the side of my stomach
And I’m glad that you think that’s cute even though I think it’s positively nauseating
Because now they are fluttering up into my throat
Making me wish I could swallow every single word I wrote
Because maybe if these words weren’t in ink I’d still be able to think
Think about something other than you
And everything you’ve ever done
And every note you’ve ever sung
The butterflies dance on my tongue
Eating every word that comes to my mind
Air is escapes from my lungs
I am losing sight of what I’m trying to find
One butterfly escapes from my mouth and kisses me softly with its wings
For a moment I thought it was you but I guess im just imagining things
The rest of them fly into my heart
And start sipping the sweet nectar that is my love
It starts Dripping until I am almost dry
I start to cry
I have but one drop left
Know that I am pouring it into your cup
Now, I know it’s not enough fill you up
But it’s all that I have and I hope that’s enough
