first dog
The smell of gasoline fills the air
a small five year old boy
steps out of the big yellow bus
the sound of kids gradually fading
the memory of his first dog is fading
after its disappearance
the front door is locked
so he goes the to the back
his first dog laying there
leg bloody and torn
he climbs the stairs
turns the doorknob
puts his backpack down
finds his mom and tells
her that the dog is dirty not
knowing that the dog is near death
and leg is gone in pieces
the memory is fading
he remembers his dad putting the dog
in the back of his truck and taking to the vet
to “put it a sleep”
the next day tears running down his cheek
choked up for the lost of his first best
