I always loved your smile
the edges of your lips were always
aimed towards the sky,
your eyes danced at
the words coming from your mouth,
and there never was a cloud able to put
a shadow over that light
drawn in black,
I was in the picture, too,
always there to catch you before your tongue
tasted dirt
But my eyelids soon grew heavy,
and my arms sore,
you kept smiling while my heart
became silent
I sank,
just as someone's toes do
into the soft beach sand,
as the waves drown their feet
in salty tears
I drowned
but
not in salty tears,
I drowned in your smiles
