Daddy went to war.
When Daddy left home that night,
He never said a word,
His face was a frightened white,
He left as though lured.
He wore a new uniform,
Mom had ironed his shirts.
She stood at the door; forlorn,
Grabbed her heart but it still hurts.
I was only five then
I had no idea
That Daddy worked for Britain
And he had no fear.
Folded flag on a casket.
Gunshots in the air.
My mother faltered.
What a sad formal affair.
