The Listener
All alone in the crowd-- sitting here, alone, trying to smile,
To think of something to say, to start up some sort of conversation,
Anything to include me,
But my mind goes blank, my body paralyzed, only my face is frozen in an awkward smile,
In my silence, I listen,
I listen to the laughs and the watch the smiles grow,
But I stay the same, watching from their shadow;
So I watch, listen, and try to understand
All alone in the crowd
