The Way I Like My Toast
I have to use white bread,
Not allowed to use wheat…
Or grain…
Or raisin.
I can’t have soft toast…
I have to have perfect toast…
Which pretty much rules out…
Extra crunchy toast.
Toast with no crust.
And…
Crust with no toast.
I’m not allowed to have…
Honey on my toast either…
No cinnamon.
No jam.
Only butter.
I’m not allowed to gobble it down…
I have to eat it slowly.
Bite by bite.
Meaning I can’t…
Tear it in half and eat one half but not the other.
I can’t fold it over and make taco toast.
I’m not allowed to nibble at it here and there.
Which isn’t Okay with me.
Because…
I make my toast…
Extra crispy, With butter and jam.
When they tell me I can’t…
I’ll say, “Bring it on.”
