One Step
My life is like a staircase,
It has lots of steps.
Sometimes the steps are red,
Other times the steps are blue,
Sometimes the steps are as sharp as glass,
And other times the steps are feather soft.
Sometimes the steps squeak,
Other times they are dead silent.
Usually I skip every other step.
I’m not afraid of heights.
Though … I am careless sometimes.
I can and do fall.
Sometimes the stairs come alive…
Sometimes they push and pull me…
Down the steps.
I can and do fall.
Some people say it’s because…
I race up the stairs.
Others say it’s because…
I skip every other step.
I say it’s because…
I may not be able to…
Go back and take every step I skipped.
My life is a staircase.
I may not always know…
Where the steps are taking me…
My life is a staircase…
And I…
Plan on taking…
Every single…
Step.
One…
Or two…
At a time…
Until I reach the top.
Or bottom.
You’ll hear me sing along the way…
One step, Two step…
Red step, Blue step.
