If Only You Could See.
If only you could see
What I’ve been through
If only you were there
With me to see
What I came home to
What I awoke to
Everyday and night
If only you saw
The pain and the tears
The suffering and screams
Maybe you would
Understand and sympathize
If you were there
For the long sleepless nights,
The morning pills, the
Nonsense of words.
If only you were there,
If only you saw,
That near the end,
I never saw him, who he was.
I didn’t see the person,
The person who was my dad.
I only saw the illness.
