From Where I Stand
i look around me
examine the world around me
take in images of a corrupt society
i see the smaller problems hidden by the big
and i feel guilty
guilty that i have potential
and have no idea how to use it
guilty that i allow my power
to hide behind my insecurities
guilty that my ideas
are put to rest with fear
guilty that my voice
isn’t loud enough for you to hear
but when i look around i also see
the leaders of today-parents, teachers,
mayors, presidents-sit down on reality
short change their abilities
and expect us to do any different
but you know what they say
the apple doesn't fall far from the tree
