My heroes don't fight with guns
My heroes won't quit 'till their job is done
My heroes battles aren't always won
My heroes deserve this song unsung

Garbed in uniforms
Guiding us through our storms
Repairing families once torn
Also helping them morn

My heroes aren't armed with weapons
My heroes are great, yet unrecognized, shunned
My heroes may not leave every battle won
But my heroes never to others shun

They protect the lives of millions
They medicate and heal daughters, sons
They may not be all you expected from
But they have a special place in this heart of one

My heroes may not know this
But each time they save a life or even miss
I lack the chance to thank with bliss
For their efforts with every brother and sis

My heroes don't drive large humvees
My heroes don't travel over seas
My heroes remain in areas as these
To unlock our health 'locks with keys

They drive in an ambulance
They save others with every given chance
They medicate at first glance
They guard our lives with a strong stance

My heroes work in hospitals
Preventing other from paying the ultimate tole
And though some lives Death stole
They gave their patients their all, their whole

My heroes don't fight with guns
My heroes won't quit 'till their job is done
My heroes battles aren't always won
My heroes deserve this song unsung

The author's comments:
Generally, people specify their heroes to be their parents, a member of the armed forces, a police officer or fire-fighter. I, however, acknowledge a lesser-known yet very powerful set of heroes in our society. My heroes aren't of any clichéd genre such as the above, but rather of those that save lives daily; my heroes are those of the medical field: paramedics, nurses and doctors.
