A Loss for Words

Thoughts strangle me today
I’m at a loss for words
I can barely hear you now
As you try to talk to me
The past is cornering me
With only walls ahead
And memories behind
So little time yet so far to go
The future is sprinting ahead of me
And I’m running out of breath
My lungs on fire
And half of me left behind
Questions punch me in the gut
Knock the wind right out of me
As the truth of life takes over me
No time to take it all in
And I realize how unpredictable
The future will always be
