Afternoons
Orange, sunny afternoons
Build me up
But tear me down.
Sometimes, it hits your hair and turns it
To an awkward shade of brown.
But then it travels to your eyes.
It doesn’t infiltrate into or discolor
Its deep, muddy pigment,
indicating the feelings I have for the moment
These orange, sunny afternoons never seem to last
Just like the color of your darkened, stubborn eyes.
They come and leave me soaring up,
High and fast
As I fall quickly with my memories
Only almost touching the sky
