"Always and Forever"
They say
The last thing to go
Is your hearing…
I hope she heard me.
Clasping her pale, frail hand
Securely in mine
I sang to her, a song I’ll never again sing
Because she can never again sing it
Either.
Did she know it was the last time?
I didn’t.
Did she know how much I’d cry?
I didn’t.
Snow white hair frames a tired, gentle face,
Bound by an exhausted, limp body,
Collapsed in a bed,
Chained to life by tubes,
All held together by the beat of her heart…
How inhuman
Can human survival get?
Maybe she heard me,
Maybe she didn’t
“Always and forever, each moment with you
Is just like a dream to me, that somehow came true”
I hope she heard
