“What I’ve learned is not to change who you are, because eventually you’re going to run out of new things to become.

Looking outside my living room window,
I see two little girls playing outside.
Such a simple image can be such a beautiful thing
With their little bikes and mouths stained with HI-C fruit punch,
I see myself.
Remembering the times when I would look forward to playing outside.
When I hear their heartened laughter, I hear peace.
Their lives are filled with joy and happiness, not fear and famine.
They haven’t entered the real world, where the harshness in people comes out.
I think to myself, ‘I miss being a kid’.

Hello! I'm entering a speech contest this upcoming month and I was wondering if I could use your poem? My topic is about being a kid and growing up, and I think this would be a good fit. I would credit your name. Let me know if you're interested!
